How the core loop works, how to make money faster, and how to progress your gear efficiently.
How to Play
Dig & Clean's official rundown is: dig up dirty junk and buried treasure, spray it clean to find out what it is, hunt for the rarest items, and show off your best finds in your own museum. In practice the loop breaks into a few concrete steps: use your Metal Detector to locate a dig spot (a slow, rhythmic pulse means the target is far away, a fast high-pitched pulse means you're standing right on it), dig it up with your shovel as a "Dirty Object," carry it to a Workstation and spray it clean with your spray bottle until it hits 100% โ cleaning it partway will still reveal it, just at a lower sell value. Once it's fully clean, decide whether to sell it or place it in your museum.
Your gear matters for different halves of that loop. A better detector expands your scan range so you locate dig spots faster. A better shovel digs faster and reaches new spots. A better spray bottle gets items to 100% clean in fewer sprays. Note: cleaning has some risk โ community reports describe items occasionally "crumbling" and being lost mid-clean, though the exact rate isn't independently confirmed, so don't treat every dig as a guaranteed keep.
Making Money Fast
- Finish what's in front of you before digging more. Multiple guides agree: clear your current dirty object through the full dig โ clean โ sell/museum cycle instead of letting a backlog build up at the workstation.
- Route junk through Storage Crates instead of selling it directly. Donating common finds you don't want (pottery, jewelry, arrowheads) to a nearby storage crate has a chance to return a small bonus item instead of a flat sale.
- Redeem active Luck codes before a farming session. Both current codes are temporary Luck multipliers โ see the codes page for the current list and how to redeem them.
- Fix your actual bottleneck. Whichever tool โ detector, shovel, or spray bottle โ is slowing your loop down the most is the one worth upgrading next, rather than following a fixed shopping order.
How to Progress Efficiently
- Learn the detect โ dig โ clean โ sell/museum loop with starter gear until it feels automatic.
- Sell early common finds (or route them through storage crates) to fund your first gear upgrade โ several guides suggest prioritizing your detector first, since finding spots faster matters more early on than digging or cleaning faster, though this exact order isn't universally confirmed. See the Shovels and Spray Bottles pages for what's actually verified about each line.
- Keep one of every new, unique find for your museum and sell duplicates to fund upgrades. Once a unique item is in your museum (or already held), digging won't re-roll that same item again โ it gets replaced by filler "unremarkable" finds until you unlock new content, so there's no reason to hoard duplicates.
- Use the Museum Tracker to see exactly what you're still missing, and the Rarity Odds page to understand how likely a rare find actually is.
Heads up: there's a similarly-named Roblox game called "DIG" / "Dig It" with its own separate wiki and gear names (like "Black Hole Shovel"). It's a different game โ if a guide mentions gear or islands that don't match anything here, it may be describing that other game by mistake.
